MapRun - Events

MapRun6 / MapRunF keeps a local copy of Events that you have selected from the MapRun Server.

This allows you to be off-line at the Event and still have a copy of the files required for that Event.

For a normal published Event, either:
  • Tap "Events Near Me" and select the Event, or
  • Tap "Select Event" to select the Event from the folders arranged by Country/Region
  • The event is downloaded from the server and a copy is saved on your phone.
Events saved on your phone are listed under the button at the bottom of the Events Listing. This takes you to the "Local Events" page.

Local Events Page

Events are listed is alphabetical order, and can be opened by making a selection from this list. The list includes:
  • published Events downloaded from the MapRun server (as described above)
  • QuickStart Events you have created
  • CheckSite Events you have selected
  • Events you have imported from your SD card (Android only)

This list of events is also relied upon when you are viewing your results on the phone.  Results that do not have a matching event in this list, are displayed without the map and course file. You can normally re-select the event on the server to obtain another copy on your phone if you have deleted the local copy and wish to see your results in their original full form.

Local Events can be deleted from your phone by swiping them left or right on this list. This DOES NOT affect your results in that event.

Importing Events

WARNING:
Before using this method, consider "CheckSites" as a better option for getting personal event files onto your device (either Android or iOS).

If you are using an Android phone, the Local Events screen also has a button to "Import a personal Event".

To import an Event that will be available only on this phone:
  1. Create a folder on your PC or Mac using the desired name of the Event.
  2. In that folder put AT LEAST a Map file (.kmz) OR a Course file (.kml) (Normally both).
  3. The name of the folder is the Event name and determines the characteristics of the event eg line course vs scatter vs score.
  4. WARNING: The files and Event naming MUST be EXACTLY of the format specified at www.maprunners.com.au otherwise MapRun will not handle the event correctly and you will become frustrated and unhappy.
  5. On this phone create a folder "Events" on your SD card in Android/data/au.com.fne.maprunf/files. On some brands of phones or versions of Android you will need to put your files in this same folder name but in "Internal Storage"  rather than "SD Card".
  6. Copy the folder from your PC or Mac into the Events folder on this phone. On your phone you should have files like the following:
    1. <SDCard>/Android/data/au.com.fne.maprunf/files/Events/My New Event/Map123.kmz
    2. <SDCard>/Android/data/au.com.fne.maprunf/files/Events/My New Event/CourseABC.kml
  7. In MapRunF, from the menu button on the home screen, select "Select Event" and then "Access Local Events" then "Import a personal Event". If you don't see your event, you may need to experiment with the folder location.
  8. If the event is not shown on the list, double check that the files are in correct folder on your SD card.
  9. You should then find your Event in the list of local Offline copies and you can open it like Events you have selected from the MapRun server (but it will only be available on this phone).

Clear an Event and Settings

MapRun6 / MapRunF normally retains the last Event selected as the current event. This is displayed on the home screen and it used when you tap "Goto Start".

If you display the results of a different Event, that Event becomes the current Event.

If you would like to clear the Event selection, tap "Use NO Event and Default Settings". This is only really needed if you want to use MapRun without a map and course after you have previously used it for an Event.
